Melvin Seals & JGB at the Stanley Theatre
Kick off the weekend with a real show. Melvin Seals spent years playing Hammond B-3 organ in the Jerry Garcia Band, and he’s bringing blues, funk, rock, R&B and gospel to the Stanley Theatre at 8 p.m. Expect a loose, soulful jam that keeps people dancing all night. Deadheads, this one’s for you.

Saturday, October 17
Utica Comets vs. Laval Rocket
Hockey is back in Utica. The Comets just packed the newly named NBT Bank Arena for their home opener, and Saturday they host the Laval Rocket at 6 p.m. Check the Comets schedule for tickets. If you’ve never been to a game at the Aud, go. It’s loud, it’s fun, and it’s pure Utica.
The Utica Record Riot
Crate diggers, set your alarm. The Record Riot brings thousands of vinyl records, CDs, cassettes, eight tracks and posters to the Deerfield Fire House Pavilion at 5476 Trenton Road. Doors open at 10 a.m. ($5), or get in at 9 a.m. with early bird admission ($15).
Late Nite Catechism at the Stanley
Want something lighter? The interactive comedy Late Nite Catechism is at the Stanley at 3 p.m. Sister will keep you in line.
Lantern-Lit Walk Through Forest Hill Cemetery
Want something spooky for October? “Afterlife & Afterparty: Lore, Legends & Legacies” is a lantern-lit walk through historic Forest Hill Cemetery at 2201 Oneida Street, starting at 6 p.m. Earlier in the day, history fans can catch a 2 p.m. talk on Louisa Jacobs at the Oneida County History Center.

There’s also a full slate of college games around town, including Utica University women’s soccer against Nazareth at 1 p.m. and volleyball at MVCC.

Spooktacular Harvest Festival at the Utica Zoo
The Utica Zoo’s 40th annual Spooktacular runs 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. Families get treat stations, games, live music, dance performances, local vendors and keeper talks. Adults are $11, kids 2–12 are $8.
Sunday, October 18
Roast Pork Dinner and Harvest Bazaar
Wrap up the weekend with comfort food. The Annual Roast Pork Dinner and Harvest Bazaar starts at noon at the Utica Masonic Hall, 251 Genesee Street, right downtown.
